A MAJOR EVENT! May 27, 2018
Rescued from Recycling is very excited to announce that all of the positive film media in the collection – commercial and home Super 8mm, 8mm, 16mm, slides, filmstrips will be donated to a major internet archive!
Rick Prelinger in New York City founded the Prelinger Archives in 1983. Over the next twenty years, it grew into a collection of over 60,000 advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur films. In 2002, the Library of Congress, Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division acquired the film collection. Since 2002 the Prelinger Archives has grown to approximately 11,000 digitized titles all originally derived from film and a large collection of home movies, amateur and industrial films. Its goal remains to collect, preserve, and facilitate access to films of historic significance that haven’t been collected elsewhere.
You can find out all about the archive here – https://archive.org/details/prelinger
Also the Prelinger Archive has agreed to designate all of the film media as the Richard Bagley Collection. So in the future after they have been digitized and uploaded to the Internet, you can look up the films that Richard chose to save and protect and enjoy them just as he would have wished for!
